For 2012, the Directors approved the following:
Aggregate of $500,000 (originally announced at the $300,000 level, but increased to $500,000 at the August 2011 AAOF BOD meeting).
Education Innovation Award Planning Grant – Maximum of $50,000
- The specialty's concerns with respect to craniofacial anomalies and special care patients are to be included within this CFP
- This CFP shall be in the form of a Planning Grant, similar to that which was done for the Collections Project.
Support of Junior Faculty – $450,000
- Orthodontic Faculty Development Fellowship Award
- Maximum of $15,000 for any one OFDFA
- One-year option only (i.e., the three-year option not offered for 2012)
- Proposals are invited that address the specialty’s concerns with respect to craniofacial anomalies and special care patients.
- Biomedical Research Awards
- Maximum of $25,000 for any one BRA
- To accommodate Mid-Career Academics, as well as Junior Faculty increase the eligibility period from a maximum of 10 years full-time academics to 14 years full-time academics.
- Proposals are invited that address the specialty’s concerns with respect to craniofacial anomalies and special care patients.
Further funding ($800,000) for the AAO Foundation Craniofacial Growth Legacy Collections Project (www.aaoflegacycollection.org) to come from the Foundation's Restricted Gifts "Legacy 300" Campaign (http://www.aaofoundation.net/Campaign/Legacy300.aspx).

Jarabak Award Annually, the AAOF BOD selects the recipient(s) of the Jarabak Award from nominations received from AAO Constituent Societies. Nominations are requested no later than February 1 of the year preceding the year, i.e., nominations for the 2011 Jarabak Award are to be received by the AAOF by February 1, 2010. In years divisible by three (e.g., 2010) the Jarabak Award is given to citizens of countries other than the United States or Canada. Click Here for Jarabak Award criteria. Salzmann Lecture Annually the AAOF Board determines the Salzmann Lecturer from the nomination(s) received by the individual who will serve as AAO President for that year's AAO Annual Session. AAOF Blair Award The Eugene and Pauline Blair, American Association of Orthodontists Foundation, Distinguished Service Award will be presented on periodic, not necessarily annual basis, to a person, group of persons or an organization who, in the judgment of the members of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation, has/have made exceptional contributions to the furtherance of the mission and goals of the Foundation. Planning and Awards Review Committee (PARC) While keeping the ultimate fiduciary responsibility of the Awards Program, the Foundation Board has delegated to the Planning and Awards Review Committee (PARC) the responsibility of reviewing the various applications and recommending which are to be funded, as well as making recommendations about any alterations in the Foundation's Awards Program.
