Since 1994, the AAO Foundation has contributed to orthodontic education and research as follows:
- $6.6 million in funding, primarily in support of Junior Faculty, including:
- 125 Fellowship Awards
- 148 Research Awards
- Over 1,000 Gifts in Support of orthodontic residencies.
At the 70 graduate orthodontic residency programs in the US and Canada, there are 22 Department Chairs and/or Program Directors who have been directly supported by the AAOF early in their academic careers.
- 80% of Junior Faculty supported by the AAOF remain in full-time academics after five years.
- On the AAOF web site, there are Final Reports from 250 peer-reviewed, funded proposals.
- Creation of AAOF Craniofacial Growth Legacy Collection designed to preserve representative materials from theparticipating orthodontic collections.
As of February 1, 2010 the AAO Foundation fundraising campaign, Continued Commitment to the Specialty® has realized $33.7 million in pledges, of which $23.9 million has been redeemed.
- Participation– Support for a Continued Commitment to the Specialty® has come from Constituent and Component Societies, AAOF Corporate Partners, and Friends of the Specialty, but by far the vast majority of pledges have come from AAO members. AAO members, in fact have pledged 80 percent of all funds realized to date.
- Regents, Fellows and Founders – Much of the credit for the campaign recent success can be attributed to those 517 individuals (as of 2/1/10) who have pledged at the Regent ($25,000) level or higher. Their combined pledges account for more than almost half of all pledges from individuals.
- Keystone Society– Over 200 AAO members and Friends have made the commitment to include the AAOF in their estate plans.

Vanguard Society
- Open to current orthodontic residents only Lifetime membership in the AAOF Vanguard Societies available to those who pledge a minimum of $5,000.
- AAOF Vanguards can fulfill the pledge over a five-year period, with the initial statement postponed until five years after graduation.
- Vanguard Regents are those residents who pledge at the Regent ($25,000) level, and they have ten years in which to redeem their pledges, with the initial statement postponed until five years after graduation.
