AAOSI SUPPORTS CRANIOFACIAL GROWTH LEGACY PROJECT THROUGH MATCHING CAMPAIGN

St. Louis, Missouri - AAO Services Inc. (AAOSI), an entity of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), recently announced a dollar-to-dollar matching campaign in support of the Craniofacial Growth Legacy Collection project.

Spearheaded by the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation (AAOF), the Craniofacial Growth Legacy Collection project is a complimentary website and database of nine collections, from both U.S. and Canada, providing access to 842 subjects and over 18,900 radiographs of irreplaceable longitudinal growth records in untreated children and adolescents. The AAOSI is challenging AAO members to join them in further cultivating this important project through a financial matching campaign. All donations will be matched, dollar-to-dollar, up to $25,000, and go toward maintaining and expanding the collections.

According to Dr. Myron Guymon, AAO president elect and AAOSI committee chair, the Craniofacial Growth legacy collection is vital to orthodontic research.

"The Craniofacial Growth legacy collection is something that could never be duplicated. It's important that we not only preserve these records, but also have them in a format that is available to researchers at no cost," said Guymon. And all donations will help increase the amount of data and types of information contained in the collection.

"In the future, we want to bring in additional growth studies, broaden the scope by adding the racial and ethnic diversity data and include dental casts associated with lateral head films of untreated patients," said project steering committee member, Dr. James McNamara.
